Introduction to 8MT

This was my first time teaching in the Junior College classrooms. Well-appointed and air conditioned, definite plus. 8MT are my first year 8 class altogether, so they get to go here first.

8MT are a diverse class with a good mix of boys and girls in the class. We are teaching from their home room space and seem to have the luxury of spreading out next door to where the sink is... that would be useful as the year progresses. There are some very cool characters in this class and really good work was produced on day one. The photos below are of students in progress today. Deliberately, there are no faces of students shown.

This class has Art once a week, period four on a Wednesday (12pm - 1pm).

The focus of today was to get started as Art students and for us to get to know each other and routines. all students have begun with a name page that details what they are interested in and things that matter to them. There will be a chance to complete these next week too, but we will be starting with looking at our first topic - Impressionism.

Our overall theme in Art this year is revolution and rebellion; how these concepts are demonstrated in Art and how Art has at times, help make change happen. The course outline is back on the google site under the Year 7 and 8 page.

All students are supplied an Art pack for the year costing $12 but worth considerably more, so that everyone has the same gear, are on an even playing field and can complete the course equitably. Because students will own the materials, they are able to take their learning home. We appreciate support in paying Art fees.

Term One will be all about painting. I look forward to posting some more images up of Art work from the other year 8 classes and documenting our progress in Art this year.
